Guindaruhan National High School traditionally holds school-based Sinulog Festival every year

The popular school-based Sinulog Festival is held every year in this learning institution. It is a kind of commitment and a kind of devotion to Sr. Santo Niňo. In Cebu Province Division, almost all public and private schools celebrate Sinulog Festival; in fact, the festival is characterized by a school parade to be led by the faculty, along with the groups of students from different levels (first year to fourth year levels) – students and teachers are finding themselves in the streets or corners in Brgy. Guindaruhan by dancing the so-called school-based Sinulog. After the very famous Sinulog Festival that takes place annually in Cebu City, the school-based Sinulog will follow. This Sinulog dance is now the traditional and ritual dance practice in honor of Sr. Santo Niňo right here in Guindaruhan National High School which is situated in Minglanilla, Cebu.

Participation in the 16th Celebration of the French Language and Francophonie

The 16th Celebration of the French Language and Francophonie has been actively participated in by both 3rd year and 4th year students of Minglanilla National Science High School spearheaded by their French teacher Dr. Ermetes F. Adolfo, Jr. The Francophonie festival was held at the Alliance Francaise de Cebu at QC Pavilion, Lahug, Cebu city.

6 public schools in Region VII were mandated to join in this activity through a national memorandum sent by Usec. Yolanda S. Quijano dated February 17, 2011 which pertains to the 16th Celebration of the French Language and Francophonie.

This is spearheaded by the Embassy of France, Alliance Francaise de Manille, Ecole Francaise de Manille and the Association of French Language.

The theme for this year's celebration is "Solidarity" with the slogan Dis-moi 10 mots, qui nous relient (Tell me 10 words that connect us), which is about how the French language connects people and builds bridges between them.

This event was held simultaneously in NCR at the De La Salle University, Taft Avenue, Manila and in Region VII at Alliance Francaise de Cebu last March 12, 2011, Saturday at 10 a.m.

In a memorandum signed by the Regional Director IV Recaredo G. Borgonia, he enjoined to all concerned, especially the students and teachers in SPFL-French to participate in the event by presenting a creative performance in French during the French Language Day and Francophonie.

The memo also said Regional/Division SPFL-French coordinators and concerned School Heads are encouraged to grace the event to show support to the program.

Borgonia said the performances will be judged on the following criteria: creativity, humor, costume, pronunciation of French words and team spirit. He added that the prizes will be awarded to the best performances per category. The contest mechanics indicated as follows:

1. Performances can be in a form of a theater play, dance, musical, movie, exhibition or any original performance that the school can think of;

2. Performances must be in French;

3. Each performance should integrate at least 3 out of 10 words in the Dis-moi 10 mots, qui nous relient as follows: accueillant, agapes, avec, choeur, complice, cordee, fil, hamonieusement, main, reseauter;

4. Performances must not exceed 10 minutes; and

5. Maximum of 7 students are preferably allowed per performance.

Guindaruhan National High School Teachers Stick to the Comprehensive and Fundamental Principles, Strategies, Methods and Techniques of Teaching

The professional qualities, learning products, domains, principles, and needs of teachers...

I have read different explanations from the various authors since they unanimously agreed in one definition that professional qualities refer to the teacher’s knowledge of the subject matter to be taught, his understanding of psychological and educational principles, theories and concepts of the pedagogical methods and strategies as well as his high regard and appreciation to the teaching profession.

The learning products

The learning products or qualities are imbued with the outcomes of learning such as cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains of learning. In fact, the learning products are very important along with the professional qualities of teacher as a friend, a counselor, a model and a parent surrogate, a facilitator of learning, a motivator, a classroom manager, and an evaluator of students’ performance.

The teaching profession must be associated with the needs of teachers who have possessed with professional qualities. The needs must encompass the following: positive atmosphere in a class wherein the students are very attentive and responsive to the discussion and some other related activities to be done inside the classroom; fair treatment among the students and the teacher himself in day-to-day living and teaching; firmness and understanding from their superiors; recognition for their contributions as far as effective teaching and humane lesson application are concerned; and chance for professional growth.

In the field of education, most of us believe that teaching is a multifaceted human activity for it entails a wide range of teaching approaches, interactions, planning, organizational arrangement and material resources that transpire within the four walls of the classroom and in the teaching-learning process.

Another view holds that effective teaching is the act of providing diverse activities that facilitate learning. Brown and Thornton have delineated certain distinctions between teaching and educational information-giving. According to them, both of these teaching-learning functions are indispensable, but they are not the same. They have distinct functions on how a certain student learns fast with a right approach, the other one learns very fast with memorization and the last one seems to absorb everything with conceptualization of the teaching-learning process.

Principles of teaching should be stressed out in order to be aware of the positive outlooks, teaching-learning situations, and efficiencies at all times in classroom activities. Furthermore, the principles of teaching are stipulated herein by the various authors in the teaching profession, thus giving emphasis to the importance of five principles of teaching: 1) respect for the individual; 2) democracy as a way of life; 3) providing suitable conditions for the development and maintenance of a sound personality; 4) improving group living in the classroom; and 5) improving the classroom environment.

Best approach of effective teaching

Through these principles, an effective teacher must have the best approach of teaching that gives him the nature by imparting knowledge to the students with dynamism and right strategy in class or method of teaching. It points out how a lesson is to be developed, and to be technically formulated in order for the students to take part and to pave the way for effective learning processes with the extent of participation in a classroom setting.

Thus, it is indispensable for the teachers to take cognizance of the moral duties and responsibilities, especially when they face students with various family backgrounds just to share content-knowledge, must use every precious time with the students, to get along with them by sharing current events or information, to teach them how to think well, to open the door to varied experiences in life, and to impinge on their hearts so that classroom situation makes the teaching-learning enjoyable and meaningful.

The effective teachers must have the mastery of the subject matter. In order for them to gain the mastery of the subject matter, they have to know first the fundamental rules or principles of teaching. The mastered contents or subject matters should be readied beforehand before imparting knowledge to their students. Teachers should encourage their students to ask questions, to give their viewpoints, reactions or comments.

There are also other ways in order for them to become very effective in teaching to their students: 1) in all teaching activities, motivation is at all times a part or should always be a part of teaching because students do not learn as much as they do without motivation; 2) it should be followed by a step-by-step level of questioning from literal level to interpretative level and from metaphorical level to evaluative level;  and 3) it is  a lecture because it is considered an effective method of communication to be utilized by the teachers.

The Effects of Mass Media: Definition of Terms

GNHS conducted a survey of mass media to private school

The following terms utilized in the school mass media study are defined operationally:

Mass media may refer to the instruments accessed by the students of the University of the Visayas-Minglanilla Campus in making contact with someone for the sake of acquiring or disseminating information. It could be in the simplest form like the books to the most complicated ones like the computer-generated equipment. These sorts of instruments expressed various degrees of influence to the students, commencing with less to the most critical stage, thereby, presenting themselves as a threat to the society’s moral conduct.

Mass media-disoriented respondents are the group of students of the University of the Visayas-Minglanilla Campus, aged 11.75 – 12.75 years old, who were the respondents of this study. They were not exposed and/or exposed to only limited media. They have no orientation to the modern media that they tend to pattern their lives based on the dictates of their own judgment of what is wrong or what is right—has something to do as the elders of the society who would accept and appreciate. These sorts of respondents tend to show a zero degree of influence of mass media as shown also in their answers to the test that was entirely conducted.

Mass media-less oriented respondents are the group of students of the University of the Visayas-Minglanilla Campus, aged 12.75 – 14.25 years old, who were the respondents of this study. They were exposed but not well-acquainted with the different forms of mass media. Their orientation to the different mass media seemed not to be always dominant in their actions and to be revealed in their reactions to the tests given to the respondents in diverse situations.

Mass media-oriented respondents are the group of students of the University of the Visayas-Minglanilla Campus, aged 14.25 – 16.5 years old, who were the respondents of this study. They were exposed and well-acquainted with the different forms of mass media. The orientation that they have from the media was explicitly revealed by their reactions to the tests given which could tell the high degree of influence that the media have really affected their lives.

Moral recovery may refer to the process by which the deteriorating moral standards of students of the University of the Visayas-Minglanilla Campus; besides, subject to this study is being assessed for the purpose of rehabilitating with the application of the most appropriate strategy for its recovery. It is for this reason that the morale of the faculty and school administrators will continue boosting and continue teaching the students in order to produce morally upright individuals, and they are competent enough to face the morally deteriorated society. This will be done through the inculcation of values education in every subject matter in which the students are expected to acquire and appreciate the value of the Filipino cultural-traditional heritage, thus developing a sense of vigilance and having the necessary attitude towards the mass media.

Posttest refers to the test given to the respondents classified as being mass media-oriented, less oriented and disoriented. This test was composed of questions intended for the whole sample group in order to determine on what the actions are motivated by each other after a certain situation is manifested in the whole study of mass media. The results of this test would determine the degree and rate of difference among the representative samples, as well as the necessary actions to aid the campaign on mass media education inside the University of the Visayas-Minglanilla Campus.

Pretest refers to the test given to the respondents of the University of the Visayas-Minglanilla Campus after the acquisitions of data from the school’s guidance counselor. The result of the test would serve as the basis for the classification of the respondents and would determine what sort of questions would be asked later, applicable to all the respondents.

Quasi-experimental method refers to the type of method in an experimental research where the researchers employed only in a single set of subjects from the University of the Visayas-Minglanilla Campus, High School Department, as the respondents of the research. The experiment was also conducted inside the school campus in a definite time frame for the posttest and the pretest by the different respondents classified as mass media-oriented, less oriented and disoriented respondents.

Researcher-made-instrument refers to the instrument prepared by the researchers of this study as the medium for acquiring the necessary information. The acquisitions of acts were dealt with…using the researchers’ own initiatives through the implementation of suitably designed instruments.

What's your notion of the perfect vacation? For many people, it's spending days on the pool, listening to the splash waves pounding on the water. And if you're a swimming pool-lover, sooner or later you'll find yourself somewhere where Filipino is spoken. Pools are awesome! What could be better than a dip in the pool and fun in the sun? But remember the pool's sides and bottom are usually made of concrete, and rock-hard materials. A slip or fall could be painful and dangerous. So, we have to be very careful. Splashing, wading, and paddling — it must mean a great day in the water. Playing at the beach, at a water park, by a lake, or in a pool can be a real treat on a hot day.

The place represents the beauty of nature...hey, my name is J-han. I used to spend my holidays on the swimming pool. There is a beautiful pool in my hometown. It takes approximately 2 hours from the rural area by car to reach it. I used to go there with my family and sometimes with my friends also. By all accounts, swimming is a lot of fun, but drowning is a real danger. Even kids like me and my sister who know how to swim can drown so, let's be careful and find out how to stay safe in the water.

According to research study, cold winters and cool summers caused by the air masses result in extreme temperature variations and a low energy budget for the plant communities found here. Most of the precipitation occurs during warm months, and the air and soils are moist in comparison to the non-forested landscapes. Soils that have developed from glacial till and loess now thinly overlay the Philippine shield. Species that succeed in this environment have adaptations that economize on energy--both temperature and sunlight--and on nutrient requirements. This adaptation avoids the necessity for producing a full crop of new leaves every spring, and it also allows photosynthesis for extended periods of the year. Species that occur in the boreal hardwoods, such as trembling aspen, balsam poplar and paper birch, have special adaptations to withstand temperatures below -30° Fahrenheit.

Further research study said that the canopy layer of a forest community may be seen as being the primary buffer between atmospheric conditions and the communities below; it bears the brunt of wind and temperature extremes, and is the first beneficiary of sunlight. Forest pine canopies may be dominated by coniferous, deciduous, or mixed coniferous-hardwood species. forest pine communities are characteristic of the cold area. After a disturbance in the coniferous forest, such as logging or burning, the canopy opening favors deciduous species, with their higher rates of photosynthesis. Aspen and paper birch pioneer such areas, and they may in turn be followed by mixed hardwood and coniferous trees in a zone of intergrading communities. Pine hardwood stands of basswood, yellow birch, and associated species develop on mesic uplands. On drier sites in the south and west portions of the forest, pine communities are more common.

In addition to the research, beneath the canopy layer, shrubs vary locally in density. Seedlings and saplings of canopy pine trees bide their time in the shade; when a canopy tree falls, these young trees inherit the sunlight they need to succeed to canopy status themselves. Shrub-level species include beaked hazel, mountain maple, honeysuckle, and dogwood, along with others associated with specific soils and canopies. Variation of shrub density within the forest significantly affects the habitat and diversity of animal species.
